Growing up, I was captivated by crime dramas like NCIS Los Angeles and Criminal Minds. These shows sparked my curiosity about criminal behavior and the psychological factors that drive individuals to commit crimes. I found myself interested in the psychological profiles of characters and the investigative techniques used to solve complex cases. The idea that understanding the human mind could lead to solving crimes and delivering justice intrigued me. These shows ignited a passion that has only grown over the years, motivating me to explore the intricate connections between psychology and the legal system. My passion to become a forensic psychologist also stems from a deep-rooted desire for understanding the human mind.

I chose to major in criminal justice and minor in psychology at Prairie View A&M University, because I knew it would be a logical step on my path to becoming a forensic psychologist. This field provides a comprehensive understanding of the legal system, law enforcement, and the societal issues surrounding crime. Over the summer I was able to participate in a program that allowed me and 20 other students to get an early start on our education journey and teach us more about the legal systems and how they function. Through my studies, I have explored various subjects, including criminology, criminal law, and the psychology of criminal behavior. Each class has deepened my understanding of how psychological factors influence criminal actions and how the justice system can better respond to those needs. I am particularly fascinated by how mental health issues can complicate legal proceedings, and I am excited to learn more about how forensic psychologists can bridge that gap.

My interest in this field was significantly shaped by personal experiences with a family friend who worked in the legal community. My best friend's dad, a police officer, often shared stories about his encounters with individuals in crisis and the complexities of mental health issues within the law enforcement framework. His experiences highlighted the critical need for professionals who can navigate the psychological dimensions of crime. Listening to him made me realize that the legal system is not just about enforcing laws; it is also about understanding the human condition. This realization reinforced my desire to enter a field where I could advocate for mental health awareness and contribute to more humane legal practices.

Ultimately, my aspiration to become a forensic psychologist is driven by a desire to foster understanding and compassion within the legal system. I believe that by applying psychological principles, I can help individuals who may be struggling with mental health issues. My best friend's dad's influence, combined with my academic pursuits in criminal justice, has provided me with a unique perspective on the importance of addressing the psychological aspects of crime. I am eager to continue this journey, dedicating my career to helping individuals while advocating for a more informed and humane legal system. By doing so, I hope to make a positive difference in the lives of those affected by crime, ultimately working towards a more equitable society.
